Musics happens in the moment, and so do photographs. Moments are ephemeral . Unless recorded, they are fleeting. As a teenager I spent countless hours with the pictures of Jim Marshall, Roy Decarava, William Claxton, Brian Griffin, and Herman Leonard. Their pictures distilled moments to their very essence. Loud in their silence. I dreamed one day I could sit at the edge of the stage, camera in hand, enveloped in the music.
This collection represents the most personal work I have shared. embodying a contradiction: it is deeply personal yet inherently collaborative. The musicians may not be aware, but I think of myself as a member of the band. Like the musicians on stage, I must be present, pay attention, and be locked in, or I miss the moment.
I aim to capture the brief yet profound moments where we can see the gestation of the idea, the expression of sound, and the interludes that connect them. If I have been successful, you will hear the music in these pages.
